Seatbelts Everyone!

Today's the day! Welcome to our first Virtual Field Trip. You get to pick where to go first, and you can take all the time you need. Want to explore more? Follow links and do online searches. Why not find library books and movies about these places? The sky's the limit!

We have thirteen states, two foreign countries, and an imaginary world to explore, so we better get started...

If you want to keep track of your travel around the US, here's a
map to color each state you visit. And here are coloring pages for each state with a flag and state symbols. You can also create flash cards with info about each state. For travel outside the US, here are coloring pages for other countries. And how about making your own scrapbook of interesting pictures and facts along the way?

For an international feel to your travels, print a passport!

Print Your Pretend Candian Passport (large version)

Print Your Pretend American Passport (large version)

Faster printing, somewhat lower quality:

Passport - Canadian (small)

Passport - American (small)

As you travel on the Virtual Field Trip, attach world flags, state flags, or state seals to your passport! If you have sticker paper already, use that in your printer. Otherwise, print on regular paper, cut out and use glue to attach.

Ready? Here we go! (I hope you brought snacks.)

Massachusetts

Visit Waldon Pond, the place near Boston made famous by American poet Henry David Thoreau. Your tour guides are Luke and Owen from Stone Age Techie.

You can also join them on a field trip to a nature sanctuary in search of pond creatures.

Washington D.C.

Toad Haven Homeschool takes us on their personal tour of the White House by White House Chef, Cris Comerford! And they show us around town, including the National Cathedral.

Virginia

Another Toad Haven Homeschool adventure takes us to George Washington's home at Mt. Vernon and to the Tomb on the Unknown Soldier. Awesome pictures and links!

Pennsylvania

Heather and her kids from An Untraditional Home invite you to the 13 acres where she grew up in Western Pennsylvania. Lots of fun things to see and do here!

Maryland

Come take a Pirate Adventure on Chesapeake Bay with Toad Haven Homeschool.

Georgia

See Stone Mountain Park with the boys from Knowledge House Academy. Then go for lunch with them on their food field trip!

Tennessee

Emma and Bella have a lot of amazing animals to show you at the Nashville Zoo!

Illinois

Lincoln Log Cabin in Central Illinois was the home of Abraham Lincoln's parents. The kids from yarns of the heart show you what it's like to be a farmer in 1845.

The Midway Village Museum near Rockford Illinois has a World War II reenactment. Join Alexander and Sophia from Born to Learn...Free to Learn on a trip through time.

Tag along with Alexander and Sophia again, this time at the InHome Conference--Fourteen Hours of Fun. Check out the wild animals!

Kansas

Penny from Seeds and Dreams takes us on a trip to her local Arboretum and Botanical Gardens on a beautiful day in March.

Texas

Visit a goat farm with Mr. Dad's Class. Wind, birth, food--you just have to read it.

Utah

Kat and her family show us Goblin Valley. Lots of geology, a video, and great links!

Adventures in Homeschooling takes us to Arches National Park. Beautiful.

Oregon

Visit the Leonardo da Vinci Exhibit with Cody at the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry. His mom writes Pack of Hungry Snails and has cool music on her site.

California

A Homegrown Life takes us to Hilarides Dairy to see 9,000 cows get milked! Can you say cheese?

Egypt

Visit all those places you've studied about Ancient Egypt with Christine and Kayla from Kit and Caboodle.

India

See Meg's slide show from her trip to India a few summers ago.

Cyberspace

Suzanne introduces us to the virtual world of Poptropica, a new favorite place for her kids!

Tune in til next time...we'll probably do this again, so get your field trip posts ready! I look forward to traveling with you again soon.

Jena, I was going to wait for the kids to wake up and read these together, but I couldn't help myself. I started the trip alone and it has been awesome! I can't wait to take the kids along.

Awesome Jena. Thanks for all those extra links to coloring pages and such. We have a U.S. map on our wall and we play a game of sorts to visit each state. Then, to mark where we've been we place a little flag on the state complete with a few facts of the area. Your add-ons will make it all the more fun. My oldest was peeking in before school and you can bet she'll be back later.

This looks so much fun! I'm packing my snacks now to get ready to board the bus. This trip may take a week or so to complete. Thanks so much for the ride!

How fun is THAT!?! Although my kids all go to Public Schools, we try to do lots of enrichment activities at home. I love this idea!

Thanks for stopping by supercoolmomsrecipes dot blogspot dot com! That chicken is seriously awesome.

What an awesome field trip! I have been reading this for about 2 hours. I guess I took some detours on the way. But what fun! So did your daughter stay in India by herself or was your husband with her the whole time? What an experience. I can't get over the beauty of the country.

Jena said...

Traci,

My husband and Meg traveled to and from India together, but they split up for about three weeks. She stayed with the family and he visited various places around the country.

I hope you don't mind, I just did a brief post that linked to both your virtual field trips and to DailyLearners.com

I was just so super impressed with both and wanted to make sure other folks knew about your awesome sites.

Awesome job and awesome job to all the other homeschoolers that took the time to submit their field trips!
